F.E. Fritsch {1935,1945} in book '' The structure and reproduction of the algae''proposed a a a system of classification of algae . HIs classification of algae is mainly based upon characters of pigment , flagella and reserve food material . 

Eleven classes proposed by fritsch are as follow :    

1) chlorophyceae                                              7)Chloromonadineae           

2) xanthophyceae                                              8) Euglenophyceae     

3) Chrysophyceae                                              9) Phacophyceae    

4) Bacillariophyceae                                          10) Rhodophyceae    

5) Cryptophyceae                                                11) Myxophyceae           

6)Dinophyceae
